Frederick M. Hughes, age 92, of Columbus, OH; formerly of Troy, OH died Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at his residence. He was born May 17, 1917 in Mechanicsburg, OH to the late Grover Hughes and Leah Miles Hughes. He was married to Betty Jean Cherrington Hughes who preceded him in death on December 18, 1998. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Rebecca Hughes of Columbus, OH and daughter, Marsha Mantia of Richmond, KY; four grandchildren, Jamin Hughes, Nathan Loren Hughes, Amy Mantia, and Todd Mollie Mantia. In addition to his parents and wife, Fred was preceded in death by sister, Carolyn Williams and brother, Harold. He was a graduate of Northwestern High School. Fred was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Troy. He was a US Army Air Corp Veteran having served in Australia during WWII and was a member of the VFW Post #5436 of Troy. He was retired from Hobart Brothers Company in Troy. Funeral service will be held 10:00AM Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church, 110 West Franklin St., Troy, OH with the Rev. Dr. James C. Wilson II officiating. Interment will follow in the Miami Memorial Park, Covington, OH. Veterans Honor Guard services at the graveside. The family will receive friends at the Baird Funeral Home, Troy, OH from 4-7PM on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice of charity.
