Master Sergeant Army Ret. Frayne S. Stephenson, age 77, of Troy, OH, died at his residence after an extended illness. Originally from Barnesville, Minnesota, "Steve" was born September 4, 1932, to the late Walter and Lottie Fredrickson Stephenson. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Fosie L. McGovern Stephenson; sons, Mark Charlotte and Scott of Troy, OH; daughters, Sue and Ruthie of Sarasota, FL, and Lori of Dayton, OH; grandsons, Zachary and Derek of Troy, OH; brothers Wallace Erma of Osage, MN and Roger Violet of Pelican Rapids, MN; sisters Phyllis Ken Leine and Mavis Darrell Samuelson of Fergus Falls, MN, and Gail the late John Hebert of Audubon, MN. In addition to his parents, he is preceeded in death by infant brother, Everett; sister, Beverly Dewey Eilertson and brother Warner LeDell Louanne Stephenson. Having proudly served in the United States Army as a member of the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions, Steve was a decorated veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. During his twenty one years of service to his country, Steve was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Upon retiring from the military, Steve settled in Ohio and had a twenty year career with McGovern Builders, in which he helped develop Troy and Vandalia into the communities that they are today. Steve had a great love for the outdoors, in which he enjoyed to fish and hunt. He will also be remembered for his skill at playing pool, his soft spot for a stray animal and his love of the news. Visitation will be Tuesday January 12, 2010 from 5 to 7 PM at the Baird Funeral Home in Troy, OH. Graveside services will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Miami County Humane Society or the Wounded Warrior Project.
