IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Florence (Sass)
Becker
October 28, 1921 – March 2, 2016
FLORENCE (SASS) BECKER
Florence (Sass) Becker, a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ, reached out and took His hand, departing this life on March 2, 2016. Florence was 94 years old, and has resided at the Randall Residence in Tipp City with her husband for two years.
Florence was born October 28, 1921 in Darke County, to Albert and Bessie (Swartz) Sass. She had one sister, Mildred Slough, who passed on Thanksgiving Day, 2015. Florence attended Randolph schools.
On October 7, 1937 she met Raymond Becker in West Milton. They dated for 3 years, and were joined in holy matrimony October 5, 1940. Raymond and Florence celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary October 5, 2015! Raymond survives.
They were proud parents of Dennis (wife, Sharon) Becker and Darlene (husband, Nick) Becker Mott. Florence was a loving grandmother to Kelly Mott and Deanna Mott, and Great grandmother to 3 great grandsons: Derrick Caruso, Braden Dellinger, and Zackary Pogue.
Florence and Raymond were members of the Troy Church of the Brethren since 1950. Together, they helped build the Brethren Church on West Main Street. They were faithful to serve the church in numerous positions, using the gifts/talents God gave them. Florence was a children's Sunday School teacher; worked in the Youth Fellowship; was church Correspondence Secretary; and Chairman of the Women's Fellowship. She was credited with 300 hours preparing and serving meals when the American Red Cross Bloodmobile made visits at the church. She also served terms as Church Trustee and Altar/Flower Coordinator.
Florence was a dedicated mother, who gave of her time to be Den Mother for Dennis' Cub Scout Troop. She also served as Brownie leader for Darlene and her friends.
After Raymond's retirement from Hobart Corporation, having worked there for 40 years, they became members of the Troy Senior Citizens Center. Both served in numerous positions, from President (Ray) to Chairmen of the Strawberry Festival Strawberry Shortcake Sale. Florence also volunteered for the Troy United Fund Mail Campaign and the Mothers' March of Dimes Campaign. Florence kept active all her life doing things for others.
Florence was an avid stamp collector and a member of the Art Cover Exchange for several years, using her artistic talent embellishing designs on envelopes. She started a Stamp Club at the Senior Citizens Center.
She loved researching family genealogy, and the history of the Brethren Church. She enjoyed following the space shuttles, and received special space memorabilia from one of her friends who worked for NASA.
She loved flowers and flower arranging. For many years they had a large garden and canned their produce. Florence and Raymond had a cabin at Maples Landing, at Lake St. Marys, where they spent weekends fishing. They had great fun entertaining their granddaughters, camping in their motor home.
The family wants to thank the Randall Residence, Tipp City, for their professional, loving care of Florence (and Raymond). Special appreciation is extended to Crossroads Hospice for their compassionate care shown to Florence recently.
The family invites you to be with them Friday, March 4, 2016 at Baird Funeral Home. Visitation will be 10:00 – 11:00. Celebration of Florence's life will be at 11:00. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Baird Funeral Home is assisting the family.
