Evelyn F. Speakman Evelyn F. Speakman, age 87, passed away at 1:56PM on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy. She was born on February 28, 1922 in Potsdam, Ohio, to the late Ralph and Mabel Cassel Cooper. Evelyn married Kenneth D. Speakman on December 21, 1940, and he preceded her in death on May 22, 1988. She was a resident of Christiansburg, Ohio, but more recently of Sterling House, Troy, Ohio. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Carolyn Don Beaty of Troy, Sharolyn Bruce Sphar of Casstown, Ohio; and one sister and brother-in-law, Janice Ray Honeyman, who she raised as her own daughter. Evelyn was a loving grandmother to five grandchildren: Bryan Stacy Beaty of Troy, Steve Shellie Beaty of Troy, Kim Craig Palser of Casstown, Branden Sphar of Casstown and Sherry Roger Hale of Troy and nine great-grandchildren: TyAnn, Tara and Ryan Beaty; Danielle, Justin and Kristin Palser; Donnie and Emily Beaty; and Megan Hale. Evelyn is also survived by many nieces and nephews; special friend, Ralph Zimmerman of Christiansburg; and a sister-in-law, Alberta Cooper of Troy. In addition to her parents and her husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by her brother, Dwaine "Bud" Cooper. She was a hard worker as she worked and lived on the farm her entire life. She attended the United Methodist Church in Christiansburg, Ohio and was a member of the Champaign County Farm Bureau. Evelyn loved having big family dinners, making quilts and liked flowers of all types. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, October 5, 2009 at Baird Funeral Home, Troy, with Pastor Mark Atterholt officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Troy. Friends may call from 2-5PM on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christiansburg Fire Department.
