Obituary

Eugene Robert 'Gene' Long, 75, of Troy, died Thursday, June 8, 2000 at the Upper Valley Medical Center.

He was born December 11, 1924, in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Raymond Ellis Long and Edith Marie Arndt.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald Long.

Mr. Long is survived by his wife of 39 years, Melba L. Hall Long and one daughter, Julie L. Broaddrich of Troy; one brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth E. and Helen Long of Kalamazoo, Michigan; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jack and Sally Hall of Surprise, Arizona; several nieces and nephews and great-neices and nephews.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Troy and the Coleman Lodge of Troy and Marshall, Michigan.  He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp and Naval Reserves.

Mr. Long was employed by Springhill Nurseries in Tipp City.  He retired in 1991 from Whirlpool in Dayton.

Services will be conducted by the Rev. Frederick P. Ours at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2000 at Baird Funeral Home.  Burial will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery in Tipp City.  Friends may call Tuesday, June 13 from 5-8 p.m. at Baird Funeral Home.
