December 23, 1912 – April 13, 2014
ALBERT EUGENE DEWEESE, age 101, of Troy passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Caldwell House in Troy. He was born on December 23, 1912 in Staunton Township, OH to the late Arthur E. and Chloe Belle (Wert) DeWeese. He was raised in Staunton Township, Miami County, and lived there all of his life. Eugene married Mildred Maxwell and she preceded him in death in 1971. He then married Charlotte Danes-Wintrow and she preceded him in death in 2005.
Eugene is survived by one son and daughter-in-law: Michael and Donna DeWeese of Troy, OH; one step-daughter: Charlene Bulko of Fairfield, OH; two grandchildren: Rodney DeWeese and Brian DeWeese; seven step-grandchildren; twelve step-great-grandchildren and one step great great grandchild. In addition to his parents and his wives, Eugene was preceded in death by two step-sons: Robert and Donald Wintrow; son-in-law, Michael Bulko; sister, Marjorie Puterbaugh and brother, Richard DeWeese.
Eugene graduated from Staunton High School in 1932 where he played basketball. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Piqua, OH. Eugene was in agriculture all his life. He enjoyed raising and exhibiting prize winning hogs at several County fairs. He even won three Grand Champion Rosettes at the Ohio State Fair. Eugene helped start Staunton Grange where he became its first Master, where he was a member for over 50 years. Eugene was also a member of Farm Bureau and the Antique Power Association. He was a member of the Order of the Odd Fellows and a member of Elks Lodge. He was also an avid bowler. Eugene was an asset to his community through his work at the Election Polls, as a 4H advisor and served three years as a Staunton Township Trustee. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed all kinds of stories, jokes and riddles. Eugene enjoyed traveling and watching the Cincinnati Reds.
Funeral service will be at 7:00 PM on Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Baird Funeral Home, Troy. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM at Casstown Cemetery, Casstown, OH on Friday. Friends may call from 4:30-7:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
