Eric Joel Slifer, age 72, of Troy, OH passed away on July 28, 2023 at Hospice of Dayton.  He was born on December 4, 1950 in Troy, OH to the late Chester E. and Mary (Geisman) Slifer.

He is survived by his wife: Brenda (Lewis) Slifer; daughter: Erica Alvarado; stepdaughter: Emily (Ed) Rhoads; stepdaughter-in-law: Bridgett Allsbrooks; stepdaughter: Tricia Calvert; sisters: Brenda (Upendra) Patel, Deborah (Darrell) Miller and Claudia (Ed) Beeson; grandchildren: Mia, Gabriel and Ava; Landon, Brooke and Baileigh; Wyatt, Fiona and Piper and Alexis; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by infant siblings: Merle Slifer and a stillborn sister and stepson: David Allsbrooks.

Eric was a 1969 graduate of Miami East High School where he ran track and played in the Marching Band.  He attended Asbury College in 1970, during the original Asbury Revival.  He went on to graduate from Wright State University.  He served in the US Army as a Chaplain's Assistant from 1978 – 1982.  After 33 years in the United States Postal Service, he retired in 2018.

In his youth, Eric was active in the Troy Gospel Tabernacle, which his grandfather started.  He was a talented musician and songwriter.  He will be remembered for his caring and nurturing spirit.

The service will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at Baird Funeral Home, Troy with Pastor Ed Beeson, officiating.  Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Troy.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00AM-1:00PM on Tuesday at the funeral home.
