EDWARD J. "SARGE" WASHINGTON, JR.
EDWARD J. "SARGE" WASHINGTON, JR., age 69, of Troy, passed away on January 13, 2017 at his residence. He was born on November 20, 1947 in Columbus to the late Edward J. and Rose (Burton) Washington, Sr.
Edward is survived by his wife: Yuriko U. (Umezaki) Washington; one daughter: Sheela L. Washington of Venice, CA; one son: Edward J. Washington III of Troy; one sister: Shelia Fairley of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren: Nia Hamilton, Izaiah Washington, Samauri Washington and Cassius Washington; his dog: Max; two nieces and two nephews: Taia Dennie, Kara Covington, Tajh Fairley and Brandon Washington. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister: Karen L. Covington; and one brother: Ronald P. Washington.
Edward proudly served his country as a member of the US Air Force for 25 years as a Supply Officer. He graduated with his Bachelors Degree from University of Guam and his Masters from Chapman University in Orange, CA. Edward was a charter member and co-sponsor of Miami County Toastmasters Club. He was of the Baptist background. Edward was a substitute teacher with many schools in the surrounding counties. He enjoyed motorcycling, raquetball, gardening and repairing computers.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00PM on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Baird Funeral Home in Troy. Friends may call from 1:00-3:00PM on Sunday at the funeral home.
