Edith L. Hurst, age 92, of Troy, Ohio passed away Thursday, November 8, 2007 at the SpringMeade Healthcare Center, Tipp City, OH. She was born in June 1915 in Geneva, IN. She is survived by her husband, James E. Hurst and loving family and friends, especially her son, Jim Hurst of Castro Valley, CA. Edith graduated from high school at the age of 16 and was salutatorian of her class. At that time she wanted to enter nursing school, but was too young, so pursued other endeavors. She and James Hurst of Indiana were married in 1939. They moved to Troy, Ohio in 1953. The next year they built the B-K Root Beer Stand on 25-A which they continued to own and operate until the mid-1970's. During that same period, while raising their family, they also built, owned and operated two car washes and a radiator repair shop in Troy. Edith loved music and dancing. Always elegantly attired, she and James especially enjoyed the Crystal Ballroom in Versailles. Once the music started, they rarely left the dance floor. An accomplished seamstress, Edith had a natural affinity for making things beautiful. Services will be held at 11:00AM Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at the Baird Funeral Home, Troy, OH. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10-11:00AM. Graveside services will follow at 2:30PM at the M.R.E. Cemetery, Berne, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or Hospice of Miami County.
