Mr. Eddie R. Wagoner, formerly of Lufkin, Texas died on Monday, March 27, 2006 at the Caldwell House, Troy, Ohio. He was born on June 30, 1918 in Riverside, Wyoming to the late Joseph and Bessie Wampler Wagoner. He married Dorothy Werkman and she precedes him in death in 1999. He is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Frazier and brother, Robert Wagoner. He attended the University of Georgia and Duke University, receiving degrees in forestry. He was employed in 1947 by the Kentucky Division of Forestry as a District Forester and in 1949 by the Texas Forest Service as Head of the Education Section. In 1955 he joined the Texas Forestry Association where he served for 28 years as executive vice president. Later he served as business manager of the Texas Society of American Foresters and executive secretary-treasurer of the Texas Christmas Tree Growers Association. He laid the foundation for the creation of the Texas Forestry Museum, was a charter member and past President of the Angelina Rotary Club, with over 40 years of perfect attendance. He served as president of the Lufkin Rotary Club; he was a retired lieutenant colonel, having completed 22-years in the Air Force Reserves, retiring in 1978. He was a supply officer during W.W. II in the Philippine Island. He received the following decorations and citations: W.W. II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, and the Philippine Independence Ribbon. He was a Fellow in the Society of American Foresters, a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow, and was designated as a certified association executive by the American Society of Association Executives. In 1978 he was named "Man of the Year in Texas Agriculture" by the Texas County Agricultural Agents Association. He was awarded the American Farmer degree by the Vocational Agricultural Teachers Association. Survivors include son, Donald of Houston, Texas; niece, Barb Pierson of Tipp City, OH great nephew and great nieces and numerous other relatives and friends. Local funeral services will be held at 3:00pm Wed., March 29, 2006 at the Baird Funeral Home, Troy, OH with Chaplain, Joe Sharp officiating. Friends may call on the family, Wednesday, March 29, 2006 from 2:00-3:00pm at the Baird Funeral Home, Troy, OH. Burial will take place on Saturday, April 1, 2006 in Garden of Memories Memorial Park, Lufkin, Texas following services at the Henderson Chapel of the First United Methodist Church, Lufkin, Texas at 2pm Saturday, April 1, 2006. Family will receive friends at the Gipson-Metcalf Funeral Home in Lufkin, Texas from 6-8PM on Friday, March 31, 2006. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested contributions be made to the Texas Forestry Museum, P.O. Box 1488, Lufkin, Texas, 75902-1488, or the charity of your choice.
