Drexel D. Adkins, 73, of Troy, passed away at 8:45 pm on Thursday, December 25, 2008, at his residence. He was born June 23, 1935 in Red Rock, Oklahoma, to the late Robert Ernest and Kate Felty Adkins. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Bobbie Marie Day Adkins; sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas D. and Rebecca Adkins of Mason, Ohio, Craig A. and Leslie Adkins of Moorpark, California; stepsons, Robert D. and Jenny Young of Piqua, and Michael R. and Kathy Young of Sidney; stepdaughter, Stephanie M. and Tony Hubbard of Covington, Ohio. He is also survived by sisters and brothers-in-law, Ernestine Schmelzl of Port Charlotte, Florida, Marie and Dick Kemper of Punta Gorda, Florida, and Jean and Fred Franz of Piqua; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Cherie Adkins of Troy; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Drexel is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Curtis, and sister, Kathleen Clay. Drexel graduated from Piqua High School and Barber College in Cincinnati. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tipp City, he was a U.S. Army Veteran, and fishing, hunting, and golfing were his special interests. Drexel was a retired hairdresser. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church in Tipp City at 10:30 AM Tuesday, December 30, 2008, and will be officiated by Rev. Gary Boggs. Internment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Troy. Friends may call from 4 to 7 PM on Monday, December 29 at Baird Funeral Home.
