Obituary

Rev. Douglas E. Peters, age 89, of Troy, OH passed away on July 17, 2020 at the Hospice of Miami County Inpatient Unit in Troy.  He was born on March 7, 1931 in Huntington, WV to the late Carl and Eva (Thacker) Peters.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years: Connie (Karres) Peters; sons and daughters-in-law:  Mark and Bonnie Peters of Fellsmere, FL; Tim and Tricia Peters of Troy, OH; daughter Rebecca Peters of Kettering, OH; grandchildren:  Shari (Joe) Tessier; Rachel (Ne) Santos; Gabrielle (Gabby) Peters; Elise and Lauren; great grandchildren: Christine Rines, Luke and Logan Tessier, Riley and Kai Santos, great-great grandson Ethan Fersch; sister and brother-in-law:  Delores (Charles) Rader of Knoxville, TN.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin sons: David and Daniel Peters; brother: Carl Peters, and grandson, Douglas John Peters.

Pastor Peters was a 1954 graduate of Bob Jones University and a 1957 graduate of Northern Baptist Theological Seminary.  He was a longtime Pastor serving Newcomerstown First Baptist Church, Mullen Memorial Baptist Church in Belpre, First Baptist Church in Washington Court House, First Baptist Church in Troy and Barboursville Baptist Church in West Virginia.  He retired in 1995 and continued to serve as an interim pastor for another ten years.  He co-founded the Community Men's Prayer Breakfast in Troy in 1969.  He was a former board member of the Ohio Baptist Convention.

The family will receive friends from 10:00AM-12:00PM on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at First Baptist Church, 53 South Norwich Road, Troy, OH.  A Memorial Service will follow at 12:00PM with the Rev. Doug Magin officiating.  Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Troy, OH.   Social distancing is encouraged.  The service will also be live streamed at https://www.facebook.com/1stBaptistTroy/live.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church (Troy, OH), Troy Christian Schools (Troy, OH), or Hospice of Miami County.
