(Hopkins) Garman
August 1, 1933 – March 22, 2018
Dorothy Anne Hopkins Garman died Thursday afternoon, March 22, 2018, at Hospice of Dayton, after a hard-fought battle with cardiovascular disease. She was preceded in death by her parents: Gertrude and Lloyd Hopkins; and siblings: Lucille, Lyle, and John. Dorothy was also preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Don, in 1999. Family was everything to Dorothy. She and Don had six daughters that were her pride and joy and a comfort to her after his death: Sandy and Ed (Dayton, OH), Theresa and Rob (Zanesville, OH), Paula (Cave Creek, AZ), Karen and Tim (Piqua, OH), Jana and Phil Voorhis (DeKalb, Il) and Lora and Dave Manning (Galloway, Oh). Dorothy also had eighteen wonderful grandchildren: Cassie, Kristen, Eddie, Laura, Jenna, Diedra, Kara, Steven, Elizabeth, Alisha, Jerrod, Alanna, Victoria, Daphne, Madeline, Jillian, Hayley and Tabitha, 13 great grandchildren; her sister Margaret Wallace (Apache Junction, AZ); and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was born in Omaha, Nebraska, on August 1, 1933, the third of five children. She graduated from Holy Name High School and married her husband on October 13, 1951. She worked as a secretary at Mutual of Omaha. In 1960, she and Don moved to Covington, Ohio, and raised their family. She was a member of St. Teresa's Parish for 58 years. Dorothy was an avid reader and enjoyed the Covington Library. She loved flowers, birds, her home, Facebook and her computer. Dorothy is already sorely missed by her family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, March 26, 2018 at St. Teresa of the Infant Jesus Catholic Church, 6925 W. St. Rt. 36, Covington, Ohio, with Father James Duell officiating. A graveside service will take place in Miami Memorial Park, Covington.
If desired, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Dorothy's name to the Covington Rescue Squad. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.bairdfuneralhome.com.
