Donna Lea Houchen Sykes, of Bradford and formerly of Piqua went to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 18, 7:35p.m. at the Heartland Nursing and Rehab Center following a courageous battle with a lengthy illness. She inspired all with her stoic faith and witness. She was born in Portsmouth, Ohio August 9, 1950 to the late Alva and Evelyn Redoutey Houchen. She married Steven R. Sykes in Piqua, Ohio. Donna is survived by her husband of 38 years, Rev. Steven Sykes; one son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Stacy Sykes of Greenville, three grandchildren: Alexia, Brandon, and Asia Sykes; a sister and brother-in-law, MaryAnn and Lowell Preston of Piqua; and one nephew, Matthew Preston of Perrysburg, OH. Mrs. Sykes attended school in McDermott, Ohio and in Piqua, Ohio. She graduated from Piqua Central High School. She was a homemaker for many years and cared for her nephew and grandchildren at times. She has worked part-time the last 16 years as a surgical assistant to Dr. Victor Kim. Donna was a member of the Troy Free Will Baptist Church, although presently attending Troy Gospel Tabernacle, being a pastor's wife. Donna was a devoted wife of 38 years, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and homemaker. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, April 22 at the Troy Free Will Baptist Church, 2482 South CR 25A with Reverend Delbert Hutchinson officiating. Burial will be at Miami Memorial Park in Covington, Ohio. Calling hours will be Friday April 21 at Baird Funeral Home, Troy, OH from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9. Contributions may be made to the Troy Gospel Tabernacle Building fund.
