Donald R. Young Sr. peacefully departed from this world on Tuesday, January 16th, 2024 at the age of 80 surrounded by the love of his family at his home. Mr. Young had retired from his role as a fork-lift driver at Akers Packaging, having dedicated a significant part of his career to driving semi trucks.

In his leisure moments, Donald found joy in various pursuits such as farming, tractors, camping, and watching NASCAR. Among his cherished pastimes was the simple pleasure of sitting on his porch, hand-feeding birds in the bird sanctuary he crafted. Known for his occasional cantankerous yet comical moments, he often engaged in spirited exchanges with visiting squirrels. Donald held a special fondness for the scenic Smoky Mountains in Tennessee and the serenity of Amish Country, never passing up an opportunity to visit. He would often remark, "This is God's country."

A dedicated family man, affectionately known as "Pops," Donald adored his family wholeheartedly. Sharing meals, especially with loved ones, brought him immense joy. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Young, three sons – Donald Young Jr, Ronald (Michelle) Young, Chuck Young (Chuck) Banks – and three daughters – Teresa (Bill) Freitas, Christine Young, Pam (Earl) Dawson. Additionally, he leaves behind two step-children, James McClellan and Lora Arnold, along with 17 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, 7 step-grandchildren, and many step-great-grandchildren.

Donald was preceded in death by his first wife, Judith Young, his son Kelly Young, and siblings Russell Young, Doris Fields, Roberta Richards, and Gertrude Irvin. Honoring his wishes, there will be no funeral service, but his children will host a "Celebration of Life" in Ohio from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM on March 23, 2024 at Baird Funeral Home, Troy. His memory will forever be cherished by the many who loved him.
