Donald Douglas Walker Donald Douglas Walker, age 80, of Troy, Ohio, passed away at 2:59AM on Sunday, April 20, 2008, at Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy, Ohio. He was born on May 26, 1927 in New Madison, Ohio, to the late George S. and Ethel Marie Walker. His wife, Edna Maxine Walker, preceded him in death on Tuesday, April 15, 2008. Mr. Walker is survived by three sons and two daughters in-law: Richard and Shari Walker of Troy, George Walker and special friend, Danna Adkins of Urbana and Douglas and Teresa Walker of Heavener, Oklahoma; one daughter and son-in-law, Donna and James Giblin of Troy, Ohio; brother and sister-in-law, George J. and Yung Walker of Victorville, California; sister and brother-in-law, JoAnn and Marvin Alspaugh of Troy; nine grandchildren: James Walker of Piqua, Ohio, Steven Walker of Troy, Ohio, Nathan Walker of Ironton, Ohio, Megan Walker of Troy, Ohio, Sandy Lee of Heavener, Oklahoma, Maranda Walker of Heavener, Oklahoma, Donald Walker currently serving in Iraq, Matthew Giblin of Troy and Leah Giblin of Troy; and three great-grandchildren: Kenlee Dawn Lee, Robert E. Lee and Gabriel Walker. In addition to his parents, Mr. Walker was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Sweitzer. He was a member of Fleet Reserve Associates, Marine Corp Associates and the American Legion Post 43, Troy. Mr. Walker served in the US Navy for four years during World War II, including the Battle of Coral Seas. After his service in the Navy, he was a Fireman with the Troy Fire Department and a Deliveryman for Sanders Dairy. He then joined the US Marine Corps, spending time in the Philippines, Guam and Thailand. His service also included two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was stationed in Hawaii, Camp Lejeune, N. Carolina, Millington, Tennessee, El Toro, California and Cherry Point, N. Carolina. Throughout his service in the US Armed Forces, Mr. Walker received three purple hearts and retired from the Marine Corps as a 1st Sergeant. Funeral services will be held at 10:30AM Thursday, April 24, 2008, at Baird Funeral Home, Troy, with interment to follow at Miami Memorial Park, Covington, Ohio. There will be military honors at the graveside. Friends may call from 5-8PM on Wednesday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami County, P.O. Box 502, Troy, Ohio 45373.
