Obituary

Dixon Folkerth, 57, of Troy, Ohio passed out of this life on Thursday, March 25, 2004 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. He was born on January 12, 1947 in Greenville, Ohio to Harry and Jane Furlong Folkerth. He is survived by his mother, Jane Furlong Roark of Troy, Ohio; father and step-mother, Harry and Doris Folkerth of Florida; daughter and son-in-law: Emily and Greg Newell of Oakwood, Ohio;and half-sister; Linda Lewbel of New Jersey. He is also survived by his former wife, Barbara Wager of Bellbrook, Ohio; aunt & uncle, David & Marquetire Glunt of Greenville, Ohio; uncle Edward Furlong of North Star, Ohio; uncle Paul Furlong of Washington Court House, Ohio; cousin, Carol McMillen of Sidney, Ohio; close friends, Terry & Necia Bell of Oakwood, Ohio and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his stepfather: Robert Roark in 2001. He was a member of the Sugar Valley Country Club of Bellbrook and was an avid golfer. He graduated from Milton-Union high school in 1965; received his Bachelor's Degree in 1969 and his Master's Degree in 1973 from the University of Dayton. He was formerly an educator with the Troy City Schools; Oakwood High School for 29 years, including golf coach for 16 years, and most recently taught English Literature at the University of Dayton. Just recently published a high school state proficiency study manual. The Rev. Russell Morgan will be officiating the service. Contributions may be made to the Substance Abuse Prevention Progran at the University of Dayton. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Troy, Ohio.
