Obituary

"Always Give More Than You Promise" -- John Studebaker, 1799-1877

Cornelius L. "Bus" Shannon Jr., age 85, of Troy, Ohio passed away on April 5, 2025, at his residence. He was born on July 16, 1939, in Union City, Ohio to the late Cornelius L. and Lura M. (Wilson) Shannon Sr.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years: Darlene Sue (Higgins) Shannon; four children: Mark L. (Bonnie) Shannon of Indiana, Beth A. (Douglas) Gammie of New Jersey, Aimee L. Shannon and Isiah S. Shannon both of Ohio; six grandchildren: Caleb (Shona) Shannon, Megan Shannon, Morgan (Michael) Kitch, Amanda Gammie, Margaret Gammie and Katherine (Nicholas) Ferrara; eight great grandchildren: Elijah, Axel and Hunter Shannon, Reece and Malani Allen, Riley Kitch and Bethany and Vincent Ferrara; sister: Patricia (Errol) Klem and brother: Louis S. Shannon.

Bus graduated from East Side High School, Union City, Ohio in 1957 and The International Business College, Ft. Wayne, Indiana in 1961. He was employed with International Harvester – Navistar for 42 years which took the family from Indiana to Illinois and settling back into familiar territory in Ohio in 1993.

To know Bus meant to understand the Studebaker Family Motto, "Always Give More Than You Promise".  Bus and Sue were foster parents to several babies in early retirement and Bus was often found holding a child or taking them out to parks and to stores.   Bus was a reading buddy through Troy Schools, helped with food distributions in the community, and was a long-time volunteer and supporter of Partners in Hope.   Bus was even named the Miami County Outstanding Senior Volunteer of the Year in 2014.  Bus was an avid Ohio State Buckeye football fan, a Dayton Flyers basketball fan, and always up to watching golf in later years when he could no longer play.  Bus always had his kids, grandkids, foster kids, and great grandkids on his mind.  He could be counted on for a laugh, a tickle, a ride, and never-ending support and love.
