Claude B. Rice Claude B. Rice, age 88 of Troy, Ohio passed away at 10:45PM Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at his residence. He was born on June 17, 1920 in Ashland, Kentucky to the late Burris Rice and Clara Woods Rice. He married Gladys Caudill Rice on June 4, 1945 and she survives. Other survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law: Harold and Darlene Rice of Grand Rapids, Michigan and David and Bonnie Rice of New Carlisle, Ohio; one daughter, Rosemary Woodard of Troy, Ohio; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Rice was preceded in death by one brother, Karl Rice and one great-grandson, Gabriel David Lair. Mr. Rice was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Troy, Ohio. He was a Staff Sergeant in the US Air Force, serving from 1942-1945 in the 315th Troop Carriers Group. He had also been a resident of the city for 54 years, having moved to Troy in 1954. Mr. Rice retired after 19 years of service as a lathe operator with BF Goodrich. He loved fishing and creating jewelry and belt buckles out of gemstones. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, December 15, 2008 at Baird Funeral Home, Troy with Pastor Shawn Hess officiating. Interment will follow at Miami Memorial Park, Covington, Ohio. Veterans Honor Guard Services will be held at the graveside. Friends may call from 4-7PM on Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
