Obituary

Carstensen, Clarence Emil "Kit" Carstensen, Clarence Emil "Kit" 95, of Troy, Ohio passed away Saturday January 23, 2010 at his residence. He was born November 25, 1914 in Ringsted, Iowa to the late Hans and Marie Thompson Carstensen. He graduated from Sibley High School in Sibley, Iowa and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He spent two years in the Civilian Conservation Corps, three years in the U.S. Army 63rd Coast Artillery, Anti-Aircraft Division at Fort McArthur in San Pedro, California, and three years in the Army Reserves. He earned an Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Sinclair Community College in Dayton. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Helen Goodhand Carstensen on November 12, 1985: two brothers Garland and Harold; four sisters: Ruth Scollen, Alice Snow, Bernice Ukena, and Jeanette Munson. He is survived by his three sons: Kit and daughter-in-law Merri Carstensen of Ester, Alaska, David and daughter-in-law Angie Carstensen of Anaheim Hills, California, and Richard Carstensen at home; two grandchildren Christopher Carstensen and Lynn Vollrath and five great grandchildren: Justin, Kasey, Kincaid, Megan and Matthew. He worked at various aviation companies: Lockheed Aircraft Company, Yates Aircraft, General American Airborne, WACO Aircraft, Aero-products Division of GMC, and retired from Goodrich Corporation as a Senior Equipment Engineer after twenty-one years of service. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where he served a term as Deacon, and as an Elder. He was a life time member of Franklin Masonic Lodge #14, Chapter #24, Council #14 and Scottish Rite. He was also a life member of the Troy Fish and Game, WACO Historical Society and Troy Elks Lodge #833. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed building and flying model airplanes. He made many model WACO airplanes, most of which are on display at the WACO Historical Museum. Funeral services will be held 1:00PM Thursday, January 28, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church, Troy, with the Rev. Dr. Richard Culp officiating. Private interment will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Troy. Friends may call on the family from 11AM-1PM Thursday at the church.
