CHARLES E. LONG

CHARLES E. LONG, age 82, of Troy, passed away on Sunday, May 10, 2015 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.  He was born in Conover on April 18, 1933 to the late Emerson and Helen (Robinson) Long.  His wife of 60 years, Patricia J. (McEowen) Long, survives.

Chuck is also survived by three daughters and sons-in-law: Krista and Dave Magill of Piqua, Kathy and Steve Cecil of Burlington, NC and Kimbe and Frank Lange of Piqua; one son and daughter-in-law: Kent and Darlene Long of Clayton; two sisters: Jeanette Miller of Christiansburg and Rita (Edward) Zerkle of St. Paris; and grandchildren: Justin Magill, Audrey (Jack) Wilder, Lucas (Laura) Cecil, Alisha Lange, Stephen and Michael Long and Charline (James) Yoe; great grandchildren: Flynn Wilder, Sophie Long, Lowen and Deliah Lange and Aubrey and Angela Yoe; four step grandchildren; and seven step great grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by one grandson: Joshua Magill; and two sisters: Mary Alice Osler and Doris Barger.

Chuck was a graduate of St. Paris High School.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Troy.  Chuck was a former Lay Speaker at the church.  He then received his Bachelor of Science from The Ohio State University and his Masters Degree from University of North Dakota.  Chuck proudly served his country as a pilot in the US Air Force following the ROTC program at The Ohio State University.  He and his family were avid Ohio State fans.  Chuck was a retired educator at Troy Junior High School.  He was past president of TCEA school union.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 15, 2015 at First United Methodist Church in Troy with Rev. Dave Leckrone officiating.  Friends may call from 4-8 PM on Thursday at Baird Funeral Home in Troy.
