(Croner) Gillis
July 2, 1918 – May 25, 2017
CAROLINE L. (CRONER) GILLIS, age 98, of Troy, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at Brookdale of Troy Assisted Living. She was born on July 2, 1918 in Troy to the late Elmer W. and Ruth (Manning) Croner. Her husband, William "Bill" M. Gillis, preceded her in death on August 1, 2006.
Caroline is survived by one daughter-in-law: Faye Gillis of St. Louis, MO; two nieces: Barbara (John) Gibbons of Troy, and Nancy (Carl) Speck of Chardon; four grandchildren: Will Gillis of St. Louis, MO, Kevin (Rhonda) Gillis of Columbia MO, Mary (Mitchell) Tippen of Columbia, IL and Brian Gillis of St. Louis, MO; great grandchildren: Brittany Gillis, David (Abby) Gillis, John Gillis, Paul Gillis, Andrew Gillis, Max Gillis, Emma Tippen and Molly Caroline Tippen; step grandchildren: Jenny (Gene) Kuehnle of St. Louis, MO and Tim (Kinue) Burress of Japan; step-greatgrandchild: Theresa Kuehnle; great great grandchild: Ryaan Gillis; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Caroline was preceded in death by her son, William M. Gillis II in 2003; one brother: Bill Croner; and two half sisters: Georgia Mae Latham and Anna Belle Quigley.
Caroline was a longtime member of the St. John's United Church of Christ in Troy and the Lion's Club of Troy. She was a devoted wife for 69 years to her husband Bill, a loving mother to her son, Bill, and caring grandmother and aunt. She was well known in Troy and the surrounding communities because of Gillis Taxi and Moving business as well as activities with Lions and other organizations.
Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 1, 2017 at St. John's United Church of Christ in Troy with Pastor Donna Morton officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Troy at the convenience of the family. Friends may call from 10:00 – 11:00 AM on Thursday at the church.
