CAROL JEAN MARKER MUMFORD Carol Jean Marker Mumford was born in Elizabeth Twp., of a pioneer family. Her parents were Russel and Avanella Staley Marker. She married Dewey P. Mumford who died in 2003. Carol is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Joe Duer, two granddaughters and their husbands, Sabra and Jeremy Tomb and Carmony and Dennis Goecke, many in-laws and friends. She was an ardent preservationist wanting to keep what the coming generation would appreciate. She co-authored a book "History of Elizabeth Twp", was chairman of the Preservation Group that stopped I-675 from entering the township, was a founding member of Elizabeth Township Historical Society and was its recent past-president. She was a member of Alcony Grace Church where she was active as a lay reader, member of the choir and the Ladies Guild and a former Sunday School teacher and bible study teacher. She was a former member of the Alturian Club, Altrusa Club, Past Presidents Club and was Junior District Director, and a former member of the Troy Christian Womens Club and a former president. She was a member of the former 4-Ways Club, the Miami County Homemakers, Farm Bureau Council 21, and was a former county Farm Bureau trustee. She graduated from Elizabeth High School and attended Schuster Martin School of Drama in Cincinnati, OH. She was a talented monologist appearing in programs throughout Ohio. She had two programs on WLW radio, "The Playright Lady" and "Morning Cheer". She also directed the Troy Jaycees Children's Theatre. She enjoyed arranging dried flowers and made many beautiful arrangements, crewel embroidery, was an avid reader, and also enjoyed antiques and acquired quite a collection over a lifetime. A celebration of life service will be held at Alcony Grace Church, Thursday, February 1 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Stephen Marcum. Burial will be in Casstown Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elizabeth Twp. Historical Society in care of Melissa Duer, 3791 Gearhart Road, Tipp City, OH 45371.
