Bruce Geisinger, age 87, of Troy, Ohio died Friday, March 2, 2007 at the Kettering Medical Center. He was born in Troy, Ohio on March 27, 1919 to the late William Morris Geisinger and Glada B. Hawthorne Geisinger. He married Patricia M. Letendre of Minneapolis, Minnesota on April 5, 1942 she preceded him in death on December 18, 1995. He is survived by one daughter, Pamela Sue Geisinger of Virginia Beach, VA and son, Mark Bruce Geisinger of Troy, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother, William Robert Geisinger in 1987 and sister, Aileen Geisinger- Munson in 1982. His education consisted of Troy High School, graduate of 1938, Miami University of Ohio from 1939-1941, Naval Aviation Cadet, 1941, designated Naval Aviator, 1941, flight instructor PBY Catalina seaplane from 1941-1943, flew other missions in the Vega Medium Bomber, Celestial Navigation School in 1943, graduate of University of Miami, FL in 1949, LLB Degree, attended Georgetown University, Washington, DC in 1952, United States Naval School of Military Justice in 1953, and numerous seminars, workshops, and correspondence courses over the years. He was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1949 and practiced law in the city of Miami, FL from 1949 until June, 1951 at which time he returned to active Naval service. Following his tour of duty, he served as Legal Officer on the Staff of Commander Fleet Logistics Air Wing, Atlantic Fleet, Patuxent River, Maryland, and Military Sea Transportation Service, Western Pacific Area. Significant legal duties included the application of admiralty and international law. In 1957, he departed Yokosuka, Japan for assignment on the Staff of Commander, Pacific Missile Range, Point Mugu, California as a Law Specialist and also serving as defense counsel. He continued his service as defense counsel when he began assignment in 1960 with the Investigation Division of the Office of the Judge Advocate General JAG of the Navy, Washington, DC. While attached to JAG, he was also appointed Branch Head of the Personnel Security Branch under the Director of the Civil law Division. Personnel security duties included the writing of legal opinions and recommendations of action to be taken by the Secretary of the Navy in cases involving security risks. He helped develop the initial legal opinion and the strategy which enabled the government to successfully defend the case of Harrison vs. Korth announced by the US Supreme Court in 1965. Bruce departed in 1962 for assignment as Legal Officer to the US Naval Correspondence Course Center at Scotia, New York. In 1964, assignment continued as Legal Officer at the US Naval Station, Argentia, Newfoundland. He retired in the rank of Commander with US Navy in 1966 after a total of 26 years of service to his country. In 1966, he was admitted to the Ohio Bar and practiced law in Troy from December, 1966 to November, 1969. He served as Assistant Miami County Prosecutor in 1968. He was elected to serve the unexpired term of Judge Paul Gingrich, Troy Municipal Court, assuming office November 15, 1969. Though re-elected to a six-year term from 1975-1979, it was during this time the Troy Municipal Court was abolished by House Bill 205 and hence the Miami Municipal Court was established. From January 1976, he was assigned by the Ohio Supreme Court to serve as Acting Judge in 21 Municipal Courts in 19 Counties of Ohio. Professionally, he was a member of the Florida, Ohio, and Miami County Bar Associations. He was admitted to practice before Southern District Court Federal, Florida, January, 1950. He was a Designated Trial and Defense Counsel by Judge Advocate General of the Navy of General Courts-Martial of the Armed Forces of the United States, August, 1954, and Law Officer Judge, July, 1956. He was admitted to practice before the Court of Military Appeals, October, 1954. He was admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, June, 1962. He was admitted to practice in Federal District Court for Southern District of Ohio, June, 1967. He was Past Secretary of the Miami County Bar Association in 1968. He was a member of the American Judges Association. Professional honors included three Superior Judicial Service Awards from the Ohio Supreme Court in 1975, Resolution of Appreciation from the City of Athens, Ohio in 1978, and Who's Who in Ohio. Other memberships included the Yokosuka Lodge No. 20 F&AM of Yokosuka, Japan, Tokyo Consistory of Tokyo, Japan, Director and President of Pt. Mugu Federal Credit Union, California, 1959-1960, Antioch Temple of Dayton, Miami County Shrine Club, Benevolent Protective Order of Elks of Troy, American Legion Post 43 of Troy, Kiwanis International of Troy, Dayton Chapter of the Navy League, Miami County Men's Republican Club, and Miami Historical Society. Funeral Services will be held 1:00PM Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at the Baird Funeral Home, Troy with the Rev. Robert Whettstone officiating. Interment to be held in Riverside Cemetery, Troy with military honors. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-5pm Monday.
