Obituary

Bruce Martin Geiger, 82, passed away Tuesday, June 11,2002 at the SpringMeade Nursing Home in Tipp City following extended care for advanced Parkinson Disease. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Peggy formerly Mrs. Peggy Ramer of Piqua who now lives in the SpringMeade Retirement Community. He is also survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce D. and Sherry of Centerville, Ohio and David N. and Sandra nee Hartley of Atlanta, Georgia along with five grandchildren and one great grandchild plus his brother, John of Wildwood, Florida. Six step grandchildren, eleven step grandchildren and two step great granddaughters also survive him. Mr. Geiger, a longtime Troy resident, graduated valedictorian at Piqua Central High School in 1937 and graduated summa cum laude with an ME degree in 1942 from the University of Cincinnati. While at UC, he was inducted into Pi Tau Sigman, Tau Beta Pi and Phi Eta Sigma honorary organizations. After enlisting and serving as an Army First Lieutenant at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland, he returned to the Hobart Manufacturing Comapny in Troy where he had worked as a co-op engineering student. At Hobart, he rose from Production Engineer to become Vice President-Engineering in 1971. He retired in 1981. Beyond serving his company with new proudct and development ideas and management, Mr. Geiger served his industry for many years as an officer in the National Porcelain Institute. He was a member of the American Society of Engineers and the Newcomen Society of North America. In 1969, he received the distinguished Alumnus Award from the Univesity of Cincinnati. In his community, Mr. Geiger was a member of the Troy Kiwansis Club and Troy Rotary Club, where he was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow, and served as Chairman of the Businss Education Committee of the Troy Chamber of Commerce. In addition to serving as Vice Chair and Chairman of Stouder Hospital's Board of Trustees, he was also a Board Member of the Miami County Hospital Association. He served as President of the Y-Men's Club and Chairman of Troy's Citizens Committee for Schools. A member of Troy's First United Methodist Church and the Troy Country Club, Mr. Geiger served on boards of both of these organizations. Mr. Geiger was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce H. and Zelpha Geiger of Piqua; his wife of 42 years, Betty; his sister, Zelpha and brothers, Victor and Paul. A small fmaily memorial service will be at Baird Funeral Home and burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Troy.
