Obituary

BETTYANN WALKER, 98, of Troy, Ohio, formerly of McConnelsville, Ohio, peacefully passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2024, surrounded by loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Bettyann was born on December 18, 1925, in Rose Farm, Ohio, to the late Norman and Grace Sigler. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 happy years, Lorenzo Dow Walker in 1989; brothers Jack and John Sigler; son-in-law Michael Showah; one great granddaughter and one great, great grandson; as well as numerous spoiled dogs and cats.

She is survived by daughters: Dowlene (Roger) McGrath of Aiken, So. Carolina and Nicki Showah of Franklin, Tennessee; grandchildren: Butch (June) McGrath, Suzann (Paul) Riley, Barry (Debbie) McGrath, Holly James, Jason (Sunny) Showah and Mandi (Robbie) Matlock; plus 18 great grandchildren, 29 great-great grandchildren, and 6 great-great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, including special cousins Jackie McGuane and Judy Hartman; good friend and neighbor Chris Kovar; and last, but not least, her beloved dog Gizzy. She is also survived and will be missed by her Pickleball, "Y", Habitat, Tennis, Knitting and neighborhood families.

Bettyann was a prolific self-taught artist, an accomplished seamstress and quilter, a fierce sports competitor and the ultimate "dog whisperer."  She was most proud of her work with Habitat for Humanity's Women Build group, completing nine houses during her late 80's and early 90's, happily working up on the roofs where others feared to tread. She loved to read and was a big sports fan, following the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cincinnati Bengals and watching Tennis championships and the Olympics.

Our wise advisor, confidant, mentor, and source of comfort will be greatly missed.

Family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 PM on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at Baird Funeral Home, Troy, OH with prayer service at 3:00 PM.  A private interment will be held at Zion Cemetery in Portersville, OH.

Memorial contributions may be made to Miami County Animal Shelter or Miami County Habitat for Humanity.  Condolences may be expressed to the family through www.bairdfuneralhome.com.
