BETTY RILEY

Verna E. "Betty" Riley, age 99, of Troy, OH passed away on Friday, May 1, 2015 at the Springmeade Health Center in Tipp City, OH. She was born on March 6, 1916 in Zanesville, OH to the late Carl and Mabel (Fogg) Reed. Betty was married to Marvin C. Riley and he preceded her in death on May 22, 1985.

Betty is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: M. James "Jim" and Deanna Riley and Robert R. "Bob" and Susan Riley all of Troy; grandchildren: Gregory (Nancy) Riley of Mason, OH, Eric (Jennifer) Riley of Nichols, NY, Jeremy (Amanda) Riley of Piqua, OH and Gail Riley-Miravite and husband, Alex Miravite of Springfield, VA; 9 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Betty was preceded in death by two brothers: Dana and Charles Reed; and two sisters: Izzy Aichele and Eloise Mullenix.

Betty graduated from Zanesville High School in Zanesville, OH. Betty was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Troy, where she was a member of the Bethany Class. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star of Tipp City, OH for over 75 years. She was a member of the Troy Senior Citizens Center, where she was active as Bazaar Chairman and Sunshine Lady, and also participated in the Kazoo Band and the Craft Group. Betty was also a member of Grandmother's Club, Red Hat's Society and Tipp City Eagle's Drill Team. She retired in 1968 from A. O. Smith in Tipp City.

Betty loved her family. Attending family celebrations and gatherings was very important to her. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, bingo, ping pong and dancing. Betty was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan. Betty was always kind, generous and thoughtful and was loved by her family and friends.

Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at the Baird Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Keith Wagner officiating. Interment will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Troy. The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM on Thursday at the funeral home.
