Obituary

BETTY JANE ASHMAN MCGEE, 81, passed into New Life on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at Heartland of Piqua, Nursing and Rehab Center under the care of Hospice of Miami County. Betty was born in 1927 in Uhrichsville, OH and moved to Troy, OH at age five due to the death of her mother, Rebecca Ashman. Betty was graduated from Troy High School, Troy, OH in 1944, and from Western College for Women, Oxford, OH in 1949 with a BA in English Literature. She married G. William Bill McGee in June of 1949 and they were married for 55 years. As a young woman, Betty worked as a translator for Hobart Brothers, a tax preparation specialist, and bookkeeper for Green & McGee Insurance Agency. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, PTO board member, room mother, and later learned the art of jewelry making. Betty was a member, former Sunday School teacher, and member of various church committees of the First Presbyterian Church in Troy. During retirement, she and Bill lived in both Troy and Zapata, TX and travelled extensively. Betty is survived by her daughter, Rebecca McGee Doyle, Troy. OH, granddaughter, Ann E. Doyle, Scotts Bay, Nova Scotia and grandson and his wife, Charles J. and Jana E. Doyle of Missoula, MT. She is also survived by her sister, Kathryn G. Holder of Bloomington, IN, her sister-in-law, Mairi McGee, Newhall, CA, and by a cousin, several nieces and nephews, and great friends. Betty was predeceased by her husband, Bill McGee in 2005, her parents, Rebecca and James Ashman, Uhrichsville, OH, and by Golda H. and Earl C. Galbreath of Troy. OH. Betty's deceased siblings include Golda H. Galbreath, Troy, Gladys Ashman Geyer of Canton, OH, twin brothers James Ashman and Robert Ashman of Troy, OH, and David K. Galbreath, Sr., Troy and St. Marys, OH. Her son-in-law, Charles J. Charlie Doyle, Troy passed in 2007. Arrangements are being handled by Baird Funeral Home, Troy, OH. Friends and family are invited to visit with Betty's family one hour before the memorial service at the First Presbyterian Church, 20 S. Walnut St., Troy OH on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Dr. Richard Culp officiating. Graveside service will follow the memorial service. Friends and family are invited back to the church for lunch and fellowship. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the First Presbyterian Church-Troy or Hospice of Miami County.
