Betty J. Welbaum Ashman Betty J. Welbaum Ashman, age 93, of Troy, Ohio passed away at 11:45AM Sunday, September 11, 2011 at the Koester Pavilion in Troy. Betty was born September 6, 1918, the oldest of 14 children to the late Howard and Rozella Macy Welbaum. She was married to Robert R. Ashman for 60 years and he preceded her in death in 1995. Betty was also preceded in death by one son, Robert D. Ashman; a grandson, Mark; four brothers, Harold, Richard, Gary and Jimmie Welbaum; and four sisters, twin sisters Thelma Canan and Velma Meek, Lova Miller and Marjorie Cochran. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Richard Stone of Troy; sons and daughter-in-law, Randy and Cathy Ashman of Troy and Woody Ashman of Casstown, Ohio; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald Welbaum of Troy and Jack Welbaum of Casstown; three sisters, Doris Wilhelm of Covington, Ohio and Patricia Huerta and Hope Fry both of Troy; and many nieces and nephews. Betty was a member of the First United Church of Christ, Troy; Elks Auxiliary #833, Women of the Moose #1025, Fraternal Order of the Eagles #971, Town and Country Grandmothers Club #329, Pocahontas Club #222 of the Redman's Club. She attended Troy High School. Betty retired after 22 years of service from the Moose Lodge and had served as a waitress for 17 years with the Curtis Restaurant. Services will be held at 2:00PM on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at the Baird Funeral Home, Troy with the Rev. Stephanie Haines officiating. Interment will follow in the Miami Memorial Park in Covington, Ohio. The family will receive friends from 1:00PM to 2:00PM on Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one's favorite charity. The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to the employees in the Freedom Court at Koester for the love and care they gave to Mom.
