Dr. Arnold H. Mayer, age 74, of Troy, OH died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009 at Hospice of Dayton. He was born January 26, 1935 in Newark, NJ to the late Hermann Mayer and Elfriede M. Schlupp Mayer. He is survived by his children, Dr. Erik Kacey Mayer of Bowling Green, OH; Msgt. Roland Jana Mayer of Lusby, MD; Christa Anthony Whitman of Blanchester, OH; and Stephanie Scott Gebele of Loveland, OH; sister-in-law, Bonnie Mayer of Yakima, WA; grandchildren, Courtney and Zachary Whitman of Blanchester, OH; Jason and Jacob Mayer of Lusby, MD; and Erika Gebele of Loveland, OH; nephew, Richard Mayer of Yakima, WA; and nieces, Beverly Schneider of Yakima, WA and Jennifer Leiserman of Yakima, WA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Herbert Mayer. Arnold was a 1952 graduate of Frank H. Morell High School; a graduate of Newark College of Engineering with a Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering; a graduate of New York University School of Engineering with a Masters Degree in Engineering Mechanics; and eventually receiving his PhD in 1970. He was a member of the Troy Baptist Temple, Troy, OH and Past President of the Evening Optimist Club in Troy, OH. Arnold was a gifted musician and talented pianist. He served as Second Lieutenant in the US Air Force Reserves and later served in active duty as First Lieutenant in France. Formerly employed as a researcher with Bell Telephone Laboratories, he retired in 2004 from Wright Patterson Air Force Base as principle aerospace engineer. Funeral service will be held 3:00PM Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the Troy Baptist Temple, 691 E. Staunton Road, Troy, OH with the Pastor Chris Williams officiating. Interment to be held in Hollywood Memorial Park, Union, New Jersey. Friends may call on the family from 1:00-3:00 PM Sat., March 7, 2009 at the church.
