Obituary

Alva P. Spicer Alva P. Spicer, 85, of Troy, Ohio, passed away at 10:30AM on Wednesday, April 02, 2008, at Hospice of Dayton, Dayton, Ohio. He was born September 12, 1922 in St. Mary's, Ohio, to the late Charles E. and Cynthia Spicer. He married Martha L. Spicer, and she survives. He is also survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law: Byron K. Spicer of Troy and Chris E. Linda Spicer of Troy; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles Marilyn Spicer of Sidney, OH; three sisters and two brothers-in-law: Zelna Warren Sprague of Jackson Center, OH, Margaret Stephenson of Sidney, OH and Shirley Jim Hiller of Maplewood, OH; three sisters-in-law: Evelyn Spicer of Troy, Sue Spicer of Waynesfield, OH and Jane Spicer of Maplewood, OH; three grandchildren: Isaiah Holly Spicer of West Milton, OH, Katie Spicer of Troy and Angie Todd Hillman of Loveland, OH; and six great-grandchildren: Lydia and Constance Spicer, and Tyler, Alec, Kristen and Natalee Hillman. In addition to his parents, Mr. Spicer was preceded in death by three brothers: Eugene, Wilber and Damon Spicer. Mr. Spicer was a 1941 graduate of Sidney High School. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Troy. He was also a member of the Sidney American Legion, Post 217; he attended the community men's breakfast and the Seekers Sunday Class and was active in the Prison Ministry. He was a Tech Sergeant for the US Army during World War II. He served at the Assembly Center for Army service forces in the Army Communication Service Plant. Mr. Spicer was also a plumber for Osterfeld Plumbing/Heating of Dayton, Ohio, retiring in 1985 and was a member of the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union Local 162. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Monday, April 7, 2008 at Baird Funeral Home, Troy, Ohio, with the Rev. Dr. James C. Wilson II officiating. Interment will follow at Miami Memorial Park, Covington, Ohio, with VFW Memorial Honor Guard at the graveside. Friends may call from 2-5PM Sunday and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
