Obituary

A. Richard DeWeese, age 93, of Troy, Ohio died Saturday, April 02, 2011 at the Caldwell House of Troy. He was born July 13, 1917 in Miami County, Ohio to the late Arthur E. DeWeese and Chloe B. Wert DeWeese. He married Elva Jean Johnson on July 13, 1937 and she preceded him in death on March 4, 1997. He is survived by his daughter, Joyce Lesch; son and daughter-in-law, Denny and Debbie DeWeese; and brother, Eugene DeWeese all of Troy; three granddaughters, Kim John Iddings of Pleasant Hill; Daisy Jason Gatt DeWeese-Gatt of Carolina Beach, North Carolina; Deanna Daniel English of Castle Hayne, North Carolina; two great-grandsons, Bobby Gerodimos of Pleasant Hill and Ethan Richard Gatt of Carolina Beach, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and spouse, Richard was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Bud Lesch; sister, Marjorie Putterbaugh and special friends, Iona Strack and Betty Wagner. Richard was a 1936 graduate of Staunton Township High School followed by a lifetime dedicated to farming. He attended the Casstown United Methodist Church and was a past member of the I.O.O.F., Staunton Grange, and Farm Bureau. He was Clerk of Staunton Township Trustees from 1961 to 1976; member of the Board of Education for Staunton Schools, Miami Central Schools and served one year with the Miami East School District. He was a longtime bus driver with Staunton and Miami Central Schools and was often referred to as 'Curly'. Richard was an avid bowler and never missed sporting events of his granddaughters and continued the tradition with his great-grandson, Bobby. Services will be held 10:30AM Friday, April 8, 2011 at the Baird Funeral Home, Troy, Ohio. Interment will follow in Casstown Cemetery, Casstown, Ohio. The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
