Theodore J. "Ted" Surmacz

Theodore J. “Ted” Surmacz, age 88, passed away at Brookdale Senior Living in Piqua Ohio on June 14, 2018. He was 88 years old. Ted was born in Trafford, Pennsylvania on September 7, 1929. He was the son of Stanley and Mary (Cheplic) Surmacz. Ted had a brother Gene who preceded him in death. His brother Fred and wife Carol live in Claridge, Pennsylvania.

Ted was married to Virginia Compton (nee Brookhart). He and Ginny lived in Troy and were married for 40 years. She preceded him in death in June of 2007.

Ted is survived by his stepdaughter, Cie Cary and her husband Rob of Sebastopol California, 2 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. His Troy family, Dan and Mickey Langston and their children, brought much love and support into his life these past 11 years.

Ted retired from AO Smith where he was a respected electrical engineer. He was a long time faithful member of St. Patrick Church in Troy and was a member of the Troy Elks. To say he was an avid reader is putting it mildly. He wrote a lengthly synopsis for every book he read and his library of 1,500 books waiting to be read was donated to the Troy Public Library. Ted solved 237 consecutive daily crosswords without error quite a few years ago and over the years had written his own crossword puzzle dictionary that was quite extensive. Ted was a bowler, grew a great vegetable garden like his mother, taught himself to play the guitar, was a music lover and enjoyed fishing trips to Canada when he was younger. Ted followed closely the ups and downs of the Cincinnati Reds. He and Ginny traveled to Canada, visited family in the East and traveled to parts of the West.

Friends may call from 12:00 - 2:00 PM on Monday June 25, 2018 at the Baird Funeral Home in Troy.  Graveside services will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Troy with deacon John Carlin as Celebrant.
