ROBERT COPP, age 95, of Troy passed away February 14, 2019 at his residence. He was born at home outside West Manchester, Ohio, on October 20, 1923 to the late James V. and Susan F. (Guenther) Copp. Bob was married to Ruth (Jones) Copp for 65 years prior to her passing away in August 2014.
Bob is survived by one daughter and son-in-law: Roberta C. and Patrick Schroeder of Huber Heights, OH; one son and daughter-in-law: Richard A. and Susan Copp of Fort Wayne, IN; one son-in-law: Monte W. Swank of Troy, OH; eleven grand children: Christopher (Amy) Swank, Allison (Matt) Petznick, Brian Swank, Dustin (Carrie) Swank, Evan (Karli) Swank, Amber (Jacob) Long, Kristen (Nick) Buscemi, Trisha (Jim) McKean, Jessica (Marcus) Davies, Amanda (Glenn) McBride and Morgan (Rob) Hamalian; 15 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his two brothers: James W. Copp, Edward L. Copp; one sister: Mary E. Altendorf; one daughter: Karen (Copp) Swank; and one great-granddaughter: Dean E. McBride.
Bob was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Troy for more than 60 years. He graduated from Monroe High School in Preble County, OH in 1941. He served in the U.S. Army in Oregon, Japan, New Guinea and Philippines in WWII. He received his bachelor’s degree from the School of Agriculture at The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH. He was a life-long fan of Troy High School and Ohio State athletics. He and Ruth have provided the Karen Swank Memorial Scholarship to Troy graduates for the last two decades. Bob worked for Prudential in Dayton, OH and Federal Land Bank in Piqua, OH as well as teaching vocational classes, prior to retiring in 1985. Bob was a devoted son and brother, a loving husband, an inspirational father and father-in-law, an encouraging grandfather and great grandfather and a faithful friend. He devoted his life to his family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday February 19 at First Presbyterian Church in Troy with Rev. Dr. Frank T. Rupnik III officiating. A luncheon will follow immediately at the church. Graveside will follow at 1:30 PM at Riverside Cemetery in Troy. Friends may call from 5-7 PM on February 18, 2019 at Baird Funeral Home in Troy.
