Richard (Dick) Phillips Obituary

Richard (Dick) Wilbur Phillips, 87, a long-time resident of Troy, Ohio died Thursday July 12 at Hospice of Miami County in Troy, Ohio after an extended illness.

He was born on March 29, 1931 in Conneaut, Ohio.  He has lived in Meadville, PA and Troy, Ohio.  Dick served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.  Dick attended Tech School in Meadville, PA where he became a tool and die maker and engineer.  He worked for many years at Hobart Brothers Corporation in Troy, Ohio as the Manager of Facilities Engineering.  He was a member of the Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Wire Association International.

Dick loved the Lord and wanted to share his testimony with those he came in contact with.  He was an active member of Northridge Wesleyan Church where he served on the church board for many years, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir.  He went on various mission trips around the world with the Wesleyan Church.  He is a member of the Tipp City Nazarene Church where he has sung in the choir and has shared his musical talent.

Dick was gifted with the ability to play various types of saxophones and the clarinet.  In addition to sharing his musical talent at church, he enjoyed playing for various nursing homes, Veteran’s Day events, and other community functions.  In additional to sharing his musical talent, Dick enjoyed hobbies of golf woodworking, metal working, hunting and fishing.  He traveled to more than 70 countries and 7 continents with his late wife Jean.  Dick loved serving his community and was a member of the Kiwanis, Troy Chamber of Commerce and was appointed by the mayor to the Troy Beautification Committee.

Dick was known as a sweet, kind-hearted, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.  His personality radiated the love of Christ, and his desire was to share this love with all those he came in contact with. 

He is survived by his children: son, David (Beth) Phillips of South Africa; daughters: Nancy (Merrill) McKinley of Muncie, Indiana and Susan (Dale) Stein of Westerville, Ohio; grandchildren: Jason Phillips of Miamisburg, Ohio; Matthew Phillips of Moraine, Ohio; Amanda McKinley of Muncie, Indiana; Megan (Bradley) Luchene of Westerville, Ohio; Kristen (Taylor) Williamson of Buffalo, Minnesota; Lathan (Rachel) Stuart of Noblesville, Indiana; and Landon (Morgan) Stuart of Wilmore, Kentucky; great grandsons: Brady and Finley Luchene.  He was preceded in death by his parents Edgar and Dema Phillips; brothers: Robert and Marshall Phillips; sister: Eva Zorn; and son in law: Jeffrey C. Stuart.

Calling hours will be Sunday, July 15 from 4-6PM and July 16 from 10-11AM at the Tipp City Church of the Nazarene.  Celebration Service will be held on July 16 at 11AM at the Tipp City Church of the Nazarene.  Graveside service will be held at 2PM on July 17 at Peter’s Cemetery, Cochranton, PA.
