Rev. Paul G. Bassett, 90 of Plainsville, MN died August 1 at Hillcrest Community Care Center, Plainville, MN following a lengthy illness.Paul Gardner Bassett is survived by by two daughters Nancy Rev. Lyle Krumrie and Karen Basset; one son, Dr. Paul Merritt Pearl Bassett, nine grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Merritt G. and Nellie Mae Rice Bassett, his wife Ruth A. Wiess, one son, David, four sisters and two brothers. Rev. Bassett graduated from high school at Grand Rapids, MI and attended Grand Rapids Junior College, receiving an Associate degree in Business Law; attended Olive and Nazarene College in Kankakee, IL, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Theology Degrees; then he pursued graduate studies in Physhology at the University of Cincinnati; then graduated from Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio with a Bachelor of Science and Masters Degree in Education. He served pastorates for 35 years in the Church of The Nazarene including student pastorate in Firthian, IL; then Lima First Church in Lima, Ohio for two years; Xenia, Ohio for seven years Manhattan Blvd - Toledo, Ohio for six years; Norwood, Cincinnati, Ohio for ten years 1949-1959; Troy, Ohio for ten years 1959-1969; then taught school for ten years 1969 - 1979; then retired. Afer retiring, he served as a supply pastor until 1990. His hobby was rock polishing and he loved spending time with his family. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 Monday, August 6 at Baird Funeral Home, Troy, OH. Services will be Tuesday, August 7 at 10:30AM at the Church of The Nazarene, Troy, Ohio with viewing one hour prior to the service.
