JAMES L. HERSHEY, age 82, of Troy, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2017 at Kettering Hospital Emergency Room in Kettering.  He was born on July 13, 1935 in Miami County to the late Glenn M. and Edna Laura (Wilson) Hershey.  His wife of 42 years, Jerilyn “Jeri” (Deal) Hershey, survives.

James is also survived by five children: David (Tammy) Hershey of Troy, Sandy Hershey Jones of Troy, Anthony (Dottie) Hershey of Youngstown, Jamie (Grady) Hix of Troy and Bryan (Fiancé, Stephanie Humphrey) Hershey of Troy; nineteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Glenna Mae Caldwell, Barbara Jenkins and Janice Fetters.

James was a 1953 graduate of Troy High School.  He was a member of Union Baptist Church in Troy.  James loved working on cars and coached SAY soccer teams for years.  He was a member of Band Boosters for 18 years, ran the sound system at his church and served as a Trustee at his church.  James was a member of the Board of Directors for the Mountain Meadows Resort in Tennessee for many years.  He worked in maintenance at Dettmer Hospital in Troy for 20 years, Valley Regional Surgery Center in Piqua, Ross Aluminum in Sidney and delivered parts for NAPA.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Union Baptist Church, 1833 E. Peterson Rd, Troy, OH, with Pastor Dale Adkins officiating.  Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Troy.  Friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 PM on Thursday at Baird Funeral Home in Troy.
