Eileen Bird, age 93, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Troy, Ohio, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2018. She was born March 9, 1925 in New Haven, Ct. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, John S. Bird, Sr, her parents, John and Mary O’Neill, sister, Marie O’Neill, brother, John O’Neill and sister-in-law, Jessie O’Neill. She is survived by her children John S. Bird, Jr. of Houston, TX, David R. (Jeannette) Bird of Columbus, Ohio, and Kathleen (Michael Sr.) Cox of Columbus; grandchildren: Morgan Vickers, Michael (Kimberly) Cox Jr, David Bird, Katie (Jonanthon) Winland, Rachel (Jonathan) Trotta, Anna Bird, Matthew Cox and Sean Cox; great grandchildren: Alexis, Audrey and Adrianne Vickers, Deegan and Jackson Winland, Emma and Cameron Cox and Tripp Trotta; nieces and nephews: Mary (Bruce) Diamond, John (Martha) O’Neill, Barbara (Brad) Douglas, Stephen (Karen) O’Neill and great nieces and nephews.
Eileen graduated from Albertus Magnus College with a degree in chemistry and biology. She worked as a research scientist at Princeton University where she met her husband, John. They moved to Ohio eventually settling in Troy, Ohio to raise their family. Eileen loved spending time celebrating life with her family and friends. She loved and supported St. Patrick’s Church, traveling, playing bridge, golf, nature, environmental issues and politics. She will be remembered lovingly by her engaging personality and joyful spirit.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Troy, Ohio on Monday, May 7, 2018 at 11:00 am. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Troy. The family will receive friends from 9:00-10:30 am prior to Mass at Baird Funeral Home, Troy, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to St. Patrick’s Church, Brukner Nature Center, Albertus Magnus College or Capital City Hospice.
