Donald M. "Don" Smith

DONALD M. “DON” SMITH, age 76, of Troy, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at his residence.  He was born on March 16, 1942 in Troy to the late Omer P. and Charlotta L. (Linn) Smith.

Don is survived by his wife of 49 years: Bonnie (Sleppy) Smith; son and daughter-in-law: Douglas “Doug” and Theresa Smith; and four legged companion; Brutus.

Don was a 1960 graduate of Miami East High School.  He was a member of Troy First Baptist Church.  Don retired from Hobart Brothers ITW after 49 years of service.  He loved the farm and enjoyed trap shooting until his eyesight started to fail.  Don also enjoyed playing cards with his buddies at various gun clubs.  Don was a life member of Shelby County Deer Hunters Association and Bass Angler Sportsman Society.  He was also a member of Buckeye State Sheriffs Association, US Law Shield, Miami County Farm Bureau, NRA and Franklin Lodge #14 F & M.  Don was a past member of Troy Fish and Game, where he ran trap shooting for many years, Miami County Fair Board for 15 years, a former 4H Advisor and a past member of Antioch Shrine.  Don loved going to Lake Erie and spending time in the summer and going to Minnesota, Woman Lake Lodge, for September fishing.

Masonic service will be held for family and Lodge Members at 12:45 PM on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at Baird Funeral Home in Troy.  Friends may call from 1:00 – 4:00 PM on Saturday at the funeral home.
