Samuel (Sam) Craig Cairns, born in Troy, Ohio, April 25, 1939, has passed away peacefully on March 17, 2024 from heart disease at 84.
Sam was preceded in death by his mother Helen Lois (McClain) Cairns and father Samuel Craig Cairns Sr. both of Troy, and niece Christine A. Murray of Cincinnati. Survived are his wife of 56 years, Judy (Dixon) Cairns of Troy; 3 daughters Lisa (Keith) Bricker of Troy; Shanda (Venise Bolduc) Cairns of Oak Hill; and Tricia (John) Skinner of Tipp City. Also survived are 3 grandchildren Samuel (Kendra) Fox of Piqua; Alexandria B. Bricker of Tipp City; and Andrea M. Skinner of Troy; plus, great-grandson Miles A. Fox of Piqua. Sam leaves a sister, Joan (John) Murray of Cincinnati and a brother, Thomas H. Cairns of Ruskin, Florida, plus 12 nieces and nephews.
Sam was a 1957 graduate of Troy High School. He proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1961-1967 and was stationed on the USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63). He attended Wright State University, then was employed in the paper industry for over 25 years in purchasing and sales. Sam will be remembered for having immense love for his family and pets.
Sam’s wishes are no funeral, but a private memorial service will be held at a future date. Family asks in lieu of flowers, please send a donation to one of Sam’s favorite Troy charities: Miami Valley Veteran’s Museum; Miami County Animal Shelter; St. Patrick’s Church; or to your favorite in honor of him.
