Joan Charlotte (Minnich) Counts, age 86, of Troy, Ohio passed away on Saturday October 22, 2017 at 1:21AM at Story Point in Troy. She was born on March 10, 1931 in Piqua to the late Reuben Minnich and Mary Charlotte (Grote) Minnich Belt.  Joan was married to her husband of 63 years: Robert M. Counts and he preceded her in death on January 24, 2013.

Joan is survived by two daughters:  Linda Leigh (David) Baehr of Riverside, California and Carol Ann Counts (partner, Mr. Lynn Davis) of Maple Leaf, Ontario; one son: Douglas Allen (Ann Marie) Counts of North Olmsted, Ohio and son-in-law: Paul Gearhardt of Casstown, Ohio; ten grandchildren: James Blair of Dayton, Ohio, Brad Blair of Troy, William (Cari) Blair of Mesa, Arizona, Cynthia (Mark) Rose of St. Paris, Ohio, Joshua (Jennie) Gearhardt of Casstown, Ohio, Robert (Dawn) Johns of Fredrickton, New Brunswick, Canada, Timothy (Samantha) Johns of Smithers, British Columbia, Canada, Rachel (Mike) Barrett of North Royalton, Ohio, Rory Counts of Cleveland, Ohio and Tyler Counts of Denver, Colorado; and eighteen great-grandchildren: Ethan, Aidan, Christopher, Alyssa, Johnathan, Timothy, Emma, Aaron, Cael, Allison, Ashlyn, Haley, Carson, Findlay, Piper, Abigail, Emmett, and Alec. In addition to her parents and her husband, Joan was preceded in death by her daughter: Roberta “Bobbi” Sue Gearhardt and two brothers: Charles Ray Minnich and Dale H. Minnich. 

Joan was a graduate of Piqua High School.  She was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Troy and the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 256. Joan was formerly employed with the Miami County Sheriff’s office and then eventually retired from Stouder Memorial Hospital. 

Services will be held at 10:00AM on Friday October 27, 2017 at Baird Funeral Home, Troy, Ohio with Rev. Lauren Allen officiating.  Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Troy.  The family will receive friends from 4-8 PM on Thursday October 26, 2017 at the funeral home.
