JAMES ESTEL MCGUIRE, age 79, of Troy, passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2017, at his residence. He was born on April 9, 1938 in Dayton, Ohio, to the late Rice Estel “Mac” and Rozella (Grimsley) McGuire.

James, “Jimmy”, is survived by his children: Lori McGuire of Miamisburg, Mark James (Robin) McGuire of Covington, Molly McGuire of Oakwood, Amy McGuire of Valparaiso, IN., and James Mitchell “Mitch” McGuire of Dayton, and his grandsons, Cody McGuire, Ethan McGuire and Skylar Morris.  He is also survived by his sisters, Bette (McGuire) Ward, and Bonnie (McGuire) Kosson, both of Mt. Dora, FL., and multiple nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by two sisters: Beverly (McGuire) Steele, and Barbara (McGuire) Brown.

James was a graduate of Miami Central High School, class of 1956. He also attended the Dayton Art Institute, where he learned Technical Illustration and Drafting. He retired from A.O. Smith in Tipp City. He was a very talented artist, many knew of his work, which he shared generously with others. He was also a very talented musician, and singer, with a passion for collecting classical guitars. His great love for thoroughbred racing lasted well into his late adult years. He maintained his certification as a thoroughbred trainer throughout his life, as well as his membership with the Ohio Thoroughbred Association.
