Florence A. (Mumford) Henderson

FLORENCE A. MUMFORD HENDERSON, age 98 of Casstown passed away February 13, 2018 at the Hospice Inpatient Unit, where she had been a patient one day.  For the past eight months, she was an Assisted Living resident at StoryPoint Troy.  She was born on the family farm in Elizabeth Township August 8, 1919, the fourth of eight children, to parents Vernon D. and Ella Mae (Tobias) Mumford. 

She was a 1937 graduate from Elizabeth Township School.  On July 26, 1939, she married Andy Burle Henderson, who preceded her in death, May 2, 1990.  In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two infant daughters; sister: Bernice M. Cavanaugh; and brothers: Cecil L. Roger O, Lester D. (KIA during WW II) and Dewey P.  She is survived by one daughter: Carol Henderson of Casstown; two sisters: Betty J. Artz of Troy and Genevieve P. “Jeanne” Wagner of Casstown; along with nieces, nephews and friends.

Florence was a long-time member of Alcony Grace Church and for many years sang in a quintet with her three sisters and another lady from church.  When failing health caused her older sister to drop out, the four remaining sang as a quartet until 2006.  Florence was a homemaker and loved to mow, doing so through age 93.

Service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Baird Funeral Home in Troy with Pastor Stephen Marcum officiating.  Burial will follow at Casstown Cemetery.  Visitation for family and friends will be from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Friday at the funeral home.
